BL series at home with Filipinos
BL series are now famous with many Filipinos especially Thai BL series. Many Filipinos love the culture of Thailand, its people, food and the way they create TV shows and movies.
That is why many movies from Thailand became an instant hit in the Philippines like Love of Siam, Crazy Little Thing Called Love (First Love) and Bangkok Love Story. These movies also introduced us to some famous Thai artists like Mario Maurer, Baifern Pimchanok and Chaiwat Thongsaeng.
Because of the current situation, many Filipinos started to become hooked with Thai TV series specifically BL series or “Boy Love Series”.
Boys’Love : The Origin
Boys’ Love or BL came from the Japanese word “Yaoi”. It is a fictional genre that talks about the relationship between the two main male characters. Yaoi stories are often homosocial that gives guys the liberty to bond and share and pursue the same goals.
There are so many BL series in Thailand and some of it is now popular among Filipino. But there are now some other Thai BL series that made waves and still keeping waves in Thailand.
While waiting for the end of the lockdown, why not indulge yourself with these BL series that will inspire you to hope, to be yourself and to love.
2Gether
2Gether is a story of Tine played by Win Metawin Opas- iamkajorn, a handsome and a cheerleader who is just starting to explore college life and Sarawat played by Bright Vachirawit Chivaaree, one of the campus’ most popular guys who is into sports and a member of the music club.
Tine and Sarawat’s love story started when Tine is trying to avoid Green played by Gun Korawit Boonsri who is in love with Tine. Tine asked for Sarawat’s help by pretending to be Tine’s boyfriend.
But as time passes by, the supposed to be “fake” is starting to become real. Tine and Sarawat started to be close and got to know each other a little bit better. As the series continues, emotions are getting intense and our main characters are now wondering if what they feel now is more than pretending.
2Gether aired its first episode last February 21, 2020, in GMMTV in Thailand. From then on, 2Gether became an instant hit. It has 13 episodes and airs every Friday 9;30pm Thai Time 10:30 Manila Time.
SOTUS
S.O.T.U.S or Seniority, Order, Tradition, Unity and Spirit. It is a system for used for the freshmen to earn the “Gear” that signifies that a student is under the Faculty of Engineering and Arthit,( Krist Perawat Sangpotirat) one of the third year seniors, uses this system to abuse his power over the freshmen by making them do things against the rules. Freshmen don’t have any power to complain or go against Arthit until Kongpob ( Singto Prachaya Ruangroj) stood up against the abuses of Arthit.
Arthit and Kongpob became rival and always fight and because of this unending encounters between the two, they became friends and unknowingly developed something much more affectionate.
SOTUS started airing last August 20, 2016, and it became an instant hit. It has 15 episodes plus 1 special episode that contains behind the scenes and auditions of the cast. The series won some awards including Star Couple of the Year and Most Favorite Series of the Year.
SOTUS S
Sotus S is the continuation of the love story of Kongpob and Arthit. After graduation, Arthit found a new job at Ocean Electric, an electrical goods company. While Kongpob is now the senior in the Faculty of Engineering and now he is the head hazer. Unlike Arthit and his other predecessors, Kongpob’s approach for freshmen is very helpful and constructive but still practising the ritualized activities.
The couple managed to win different trials and kept their relationship strong with the help of their friends. During Kongpob’s final year, he needs to find an internship company, and requests to work alongside with Arthit over his family’s company.
Arthit kept his relationship with Kongpob to his colleague, After an outing with the company, some issues rises between the two that left them wondering if they can stay in the relationship and decide what will happen to their future.
Sotus S started airing last December 9, 2017, and ended March 10, 2018, with 13 episode and awards like Couple of the year and Series of the Year.
Until We Meet Again
Until We Meet Again is a story that will make you believe in reincarnation. Intouch (Earth Katsamonnat Namwirote) and Korn (Nine Noppakao Dechaphatthanakun) met in a university in Bangkok. Intouch is a student with full of life and spirit and Korn is the complete opposite. Korn is admired by Intouch and Korn keeps on pushing away Intouch but as time goes by, Korn let Intouch be part of his life. Korn is part of a well-known Family in Bangkok, the mafia.
Their relationship is a roller coaster ride, in their time, homosexuality is unacceptable and their families are against their relationship. They tried to make their relationship work but Korn, one day decided to give up because he cannot deal with Intouch’s suffering. On the day Korn gives up, two gunshots were heard. Korn and Intouch’s story ended tragically. Unknowingly something had already tied itself between them, bounding them together even after they were dead.
The Reincarnation
Years later, a freshmen in T University named Pharm (Fluke Natouch Siripongthon) came back to Thailand. He grew up with a feeling of longing for someone. He keeps on dreaming of a sad dream and it keeps him awake with a wet face. Pharm has a fear of loud noises and he has a birthmark on his temple. Dean (Ohm Thitiwat Ritprasert) is a Third-year student of T University and the President of Swimming Club. Like Pharm, he also feels that he misses someone but he cannot remember the face.

TharnType
TharnType is a story of embracing one’s fear and facing reality. Type (Gulf Kanawut Traipipattanapong) is a tall, handsome freshman. Type is a very nice and warm boy who grew up homophobic because Type was molested by a man as a child. Type’s life turned upside down when he a very interesting person came along during his new year in college. Tharn ( Mew Suppasit Jongcheveevat ) is a handsome, Music Major student with fair skin and mixed features. Tharn is openly gay and he is the roommate of Type.
Now that Tharn, a gay freshman and Type, a homophobic student are together in one room and will share it for the rest of the year, will their story explode with anger or will blossom with love?
TharnType aired their first episode last October 7, 2019, and ended the season’s 12th episode last January 6, 2020. it was confirmed that there will be a 2nd season for the love story of Tharn and Type this 2020 it will focus on their corporate lives.
Together With Me
Together With Me is the story of Korn (Max Nattapol Diloknawarit) and Knock (Tul Pakorn Thanasrivanitchai) before Bad Romance: The Series. It is their journey on how they started to know each other and fall in love.
Korn and Knock are young engineering students and the best of friends. One day an unexpected thing happened between they are drunk and also because of hormones. Knock and Korn argue and fight because of this scene and ended up agreeing to keep it a secret because Korn has a girlfriend and he is not gay.
As the story runs, Korn and Knock fight a lot, but also have a lot of sweet moments together. In the end, they both confess to each other and start dating.
The series’ first episode aired August 24, 2017, and ended October 5, 2017, with its 13th episode.
Together With Me: The Next Chapter
Together With Me: The Next Chapter is the continuation of Korn and Knock’s love story after Bad Romance: The Series.
Knock and Korn’s relationship is a roller coaster ride. They still fight over painful reason like, keeping their relationship to Korn’s family and cheating and the society doesn’t fully accept their relationship.
When Korn’s father learned about their relationship he is against it and even threatens Korn that he will disown him if he will continue loving Knock but the situation is way different with Knock’s family, they fully accept the relationship.
With these ups and downs, will their relationship lose the battle or win with flying colors?
The series started September 28, 2018, and ended December 19, 2018, with 13 episodes.
He’s Coming To Me
The story started when Mes (Singto Prachaya Ruangroj) died on the day of his birthday in 1997. Mes stayed as a ghost and was not reincarnated so he has the freedom to roam around. Mes is broken because no one visits his grave and he thinks everybody forgets about him.
One day a kid noticed Mes’ grave and feel pity because the grave is in dilapidation stage. From then on the kid keeps on visiting Mes’ grave and take care of it. Mes noticed the kid’s frequent visit he doesn’t know that the kid can see him. When Mes finally learned that the kid can see ghost, the kid stopped visiting his grave once again Mes is in deep sadness.
2019 came and to Mes’ surprise someone visited his grave again and he learn that it was the kid who always visiting his grave but he is now a fine young man his name is Thurn (Ohm Pawat Chittsawangdee).
Thurn promised Mes to help him to know who he is, why and how he died. But as their journey progress to find answers to their questions, Their feelings for each other grows and fear of being separated starting to haunt them. Will their love become crystal clear or will be gone with the wind?
He’s Coming to Me first aired on March 7, 2019 and ended with 8 episodes on April 25, 219.
Gay OK Bangkok
Gay OK Bangkok is a web series launched last 2016. It has 5 episodes that tackles different real life situations, challenges and successes that every gay couples are experiencing. Some of the issues shown in the series are family, career, the relationship itself and the most important is sexual health.
The first episode aired February 21, 2016 and ended March 27, 2016.

Due to the success of Gay Ok Bangkok web series, season 2 was released. The stories are more intimate, more inspiring and more lessons in life.
There are 7 episodes that tackles the real struggles and success of a gay relationship. The web series aired from March 19, 2017 to April 30, 2017.
Dark Blue Kiss
Dark Blue Kiss is the the story of Kao (New Thitipoom Techaapaikhun) and Pete (Tay Tawan Vihokratana)after the series “Kiss Again”. Kao and Pete have grown closer and their relationship became sweeter but Kao is still not open with his mother. He is afraid for his mother to find out. His mother then introduces Non, the son of her friend because he needs a tutor, With Non always giving off some “special” vibes towards Kao, Pete gets jealous.

My Engineer starts airing last March 14, 2020 and expected to end its season on May 30, 2020 with its 14th episode.

Now that we are in “house arrest” figuratively speaking, its not too late to be part of the new bandwagon and start exploring these new series that can be worth your time. The series may be from the other country but the theme of the stories is our universal language, Love.
