Fashion Designers Reveal Picks from Casa de Memoria Auction
One artwork could mean different things to different people. Take the case of rising young designers Dani Osmeña and Gabbie Sarenas, both known for their respective namesake fashion labels, who, when asked to choose their favorite items from the upcoming The Casa Online 01 auction, both singled out Charcoal Drawing of an Old Man’s Hands by Baldomero Romero Rossendi.
While Sarenas focused on the technique and personality of the piece, Osmeña highlighted its representation of the passing of time.
The said painting is one of 180 lots featured in The Casa Online 01, the first in a series of online auctions that will be held on the Casa de Memoria’s new virtual platform. The Casa Online 01 is happening on July 11, 2020 at 2 o’clock in the afternoon and will feature a total of 180 lots which will all have a ceiling price of P45,000 only.
Aside from the Rossendi piece, Gabbie Sarenas was also taken with the following pieces: “Portrait of a Girl” by Henri Matisse, “Eye Surgery” by Robert Bernard, and “Mujerfrente al mar” by Jordi Puiggalí Clavell as well as two Portuguese porcelain pieces from Vista Alegre, the “Salina” and “Palácio de S. Bento” ash trays, which she believes could add personality to any room with their unique and classic designs.
On the other hand, Dani Osmeña was drawn to the “El Brindis” by Domingo Angulo Andres for its portrayal of human connectedness, the Female Nude Sketch by Eloisa Noblom for its ability to capture a woman in her most natural state and the Hermes Standard 6 Typewriter for its representation of the written word.
Aside from these tastemakers’ chosen items, you can discover more must-have European-Filipino art pieces at The Casa Online 01 auction. Part of the proceeds from the auctions will be donated to ABS-CBN Sagip Kapamilya.
