LOCAL SCHOOLS GET MAJOR UPGRADE WITH SM’S BRIGADA ESKWELA

SM Supermalls in Grand Central, Sangandaan, and Valenzuela have wrapped up their annual Brigada Eskwela initiative for the school year 2024-2025, focusing on three schools across Metro Manila. The program, in support of the Department of Education’s Bayanihan para Sa Matatag na Paaralan, concluded on July 31, bringing significant improvements to school facilities and the learning environment.

At Morning Breeze Elementary School in Caloocan City, SM City Grand Central went beyond the usual touch-ups by addressing the pressing issue of water access. The mall spearheaded the water re-installation project, resolving the longstanding supply problems that had hampered daily school operations.

The newly installed water system is set to enhance the lives of over a hundred students and staff by ensuring reliable access to clean water. This upgrade will also bolster the school’s gardening initiatives, which focus on environmental education and food sustainability. Additionally, SM City Grand Central has generously contributed vegetable seedlings to support these gardening projects. The mall, through SM Foundation Inc., has also provided 2,750 new textbooks to enrich the students’ learning experience.

Simultaneously, SM City Valenzuela conducted renovations at Caruhatan West Elementary School, while SM Center Sangandaan focused on improvements at Andres Bonifacio Elementary School.

SM Center Sangandaan also extended its support to Andres Bonifacio Elementary School by donating monoblock chairs for academic assemblies and 2,750 new textbooks to support the educational needs of the students.

Across all three locations, the Brigada Eskwela initiative focused on restoring aging facilities and run-down classrooms. Beneficiaries also received essential cleaning materials and supplies for repairs and painting.

Brigada Eskwela is an annual volunteer activity led by SM’s Human Resources Department, in partnership with SM Cares. Aligned with SM’s mission to be a catalyst for positive change, this initiative seeks to assist communities in creating better learning environments across the beneficiary institutions.
