Love local: The rise of P-Pop
OPM reigns on Twitter with P-Pop at its helm. SB19 (@SB19Official) grew stronger than ever this year, even earning international nominations and continuing to impress the crowd with their unique style and performance. Other P-Pop groups are also making waves on Twitter this year. Local fan base keeps on growing as seen on the rise of hashtags such as boy group #bgyo and girl group #bini.
Meanwhile, shows on streaming apps dominate the conversations on visual programs. The standout above it all is the Filipino series, #HesIntoHer starring Belle Mariano (@bellemariano02) and Donny Pangilinan (@donnypangilinan). Netflix series #SquidGame also took the world by storm, but this had sentimental value to Filipinos as player number 276 is played by a Filipino actor, Christian Lagahit.
Filipinos continue to ride the Hallyu wave
The Philippines continue to miss live concerts, so they make sure to stay connected with their favorite K-Pop groups to never miss out on any comebacks, events, and projects. Just like in the previous years, BTS (@BTS_twt) is smooth like butter and has pulled all Filipino ARMYs in like no other in 2021.
Meanwhile, Red Velvet (@RVsmtown) finally made their awaited comeback and showed us their “Queendom,” while EXO (@weareoneexo) also held their highly-anticipated return with Don’t Fight The Feeling prior to members’ military enlistment. These are just some of the moments that Filipinos glued into, but 2021 is a fun rollercoaster of comeback after comeback in K-Pop.
