PLDT, SMART FIRST TO RESTORE COVERAGE IN BASCO, BATANES
PLDT wireless unit Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) has restored mobile services in Basco, Batanes on Sunday following Typhoon Kiko.
The Group is the first to bring communications back to the province, after Kiko’s destructive winds and heavy rains cut it off from the rest of the country.
Residents can now call and send text messages to their families and loved ones as PLDT and Smart personnel carry on with further repairs on damaged network equipment.
Mobile services have also been restored in Sabtang island. More areas are expected to be reconnected once roads are cleared and our quick response teams can reach affected sites.
PLDT and Smart are coordinating with local government units in sending relief aid to residents who have been severely impacted by #KikoPH. Smart’s Libreng Tawag and Charging sites will be activated as soon as the weather improves.
Typhoon Kiko pounded the country’s northernmost province with “very destructive typhoon-force winds” and heavy rains on Saturday.
